5 Can’t-Miss July Events in Duluth

Posted by Kris Lindahl on Monday, July 6th, 2015 at 10:44am.

Summer is in full-swing which means there’s always something going on in Duluth. We’ve run across five events this month that we’re sure you won’t want to miss.

Downtown Duluth Sidewalk Days Festival

This one starts this coming Wednesday, July 8 and runs through the July 11. The Downtown Duluth Sidewalk Days Festival brings a car show (on Wednesday), a street dance (on Saturday), lots of live music and food. Head downtown to Superior Street, between Lake Ave and 5th Ave West. It starts at 9:00 a.m. Visit Downtown Duluth’s website for details and a full schedule.

The 94th Annual South Saint Louis County Fair

The country fair opens this Wednesday, July 8 and runs through the weekend. Get your fair food craving fixed, watch the horse show or car races and let the kids go wild on the carnival midway. The fair is open every day from 10:00 am until 11:00 pm, except on Sunday when it closes at 6:00 p.m.  Find the fairgrounds at 800 N. Boundary Avenue in Proctor. Learn more here.

Duluth Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show

How does one judge a “Best in Show” from more than 150 dog breeds (we didn’t even know there were that many!)? Every day you’ll be able to see a different contest as the pooches vie for that coveted title. The Duluth Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show is held July 9 through 11 at Duluth’s Entertainment Convention Center, 350 Harbor Drive. Learn more here.

Douglas County Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is the world's largest fundraising event with an aim to end cancer and it’s coming to Duluth on Friday, July 10. Be at the Wessman Arena on the UWS Campus by 4:30 p.m. for the carnival and all the events that will run through the night. Get details on the Relay for Life website.

Slide the City

We gave you a heads up on this one a couple of weeks ago. Grab your swimmies and head to 12th Avenue East. There, you’ll find a 1,000-foot long, 27-foot wide water slide that will run from 2nd Street to the Rose Garden. It happens on July 25 from noon until 6:00 p.m. and proceeds benefit Duluth Fire Department Local 101’s "Operation Warm." Prices and details are available here.
