There are a lot of fun things going on in and around Duluth this month but we were able to narrow the calendar down to three events we consider “must-attends.”
Come see the Stanley Cup trophy up close at AMSOIL Arena today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Go to Entrance E for free admission (although they hope you’ll drop a $5 donation). All donations benefit the UMD Hockey Scholarship program and the BetheMatch Bone Marrow Donor Program, Breast Cancer Research and Awareness.
Now in its 40th year, the Hoghead Festival is going on now through Sunday at various venues around Proctor. If you’re new to the area, Hoghead is a celebration of Proctor’s railroad heritage. Some of the events you can enjoy include today’s Ugly Car & Truck Contest and the Powerhouse Car Show. Tomorrow check out the pet parade and on Friday, enjoy the Whistlestop Festival, a softball tournament in the afternoon and evening and the Derailed Bar Street Dance that evening. For the rest of the festival’s events, times and locations, visit the website.
Movies in the Park
We love this summer event! This month’s movies include “Field of Dreams” on August 14, “Happy Gilmore” on the 21st and “Planes” on the 28th. Movies start at sunset at Leif Erickson Park. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets!
Kraus-Anderson Bike Duluth Festival
Not your ordinary biking event, the Kraus-Anderson Bike Duluth Festival appeals to the “cross-country spandex warrior, free-ridin' adrenaline junkie, family that craves adventure or just looking for a fun-filled social event,” according to organizers. It happens this weekend at Spirit Mountain and you can get more information here.
