Now that you’re home from the Memorial Festivities here in Duluth, you have the rest of the day to yourself ― hopefully. And, as (bad) luck would have it, we’ve got rain in the forecast. So, what to do aside from parking your behind in front of the TV all day? We’ve come up with a few ideas on how to spend the rest of Memorial Day if you’re stuck inside.
Cookies and cupcakes are easy to bake and fun for kids ― especially when it comes time to lick the spoons. If the pantry is bare, make a grocery run. Already-made cookie dough in a tube is probably the easiest but the baking aisle in the store will give you loads of ideas.
So, ok, sometimes parking your behind in front of the tube all day is exactly what you want to do. Make it a movie marathon with popcorn, bon-bons and drinks, throw extra pillows on the sofa and pig out on movies. NetFlix has a long list of new releases ― both movies and TV shows. Come on, how many times have you told yourself you need to start in on Season 1 of Mad Men or Breaking Bad?
Stuff around the House
Some folks need to be kept busy and if you are among them, how about getting some of those small chores done? Organizing is one that a lot of us put off and a rainy day is ideal for tackling this one. Whether it’s your desk, the garage or the fridge, getting something accomplished on your day off can be cathartic.
If the elements don’t bother you, why not take the rest of the day and look at Duluth through a tourist’s eyes? Stroll downtown, stopping in at all the shops you’ve always meant to visit. Stop in your favorite watering hole for a beer or take in an early dinner at a restaurant you’ve been meaning to try.
Whatever you end up doing for the rest of Memorial Day 2015, make it fun!
