Where can you go for Cross-Country Skiing near Duluth, MN?

Finding a place for cross-country skiing in Duluth isn't hard. There are several trail systems to choose from. Some are better for beginners, while others fit well for the advanced skier. Here are the top trail systems for cross-country skiing in Duluth.

Hartley Park

This park provides wooded loops through neighborhoods. There is a full five kilometer of double-tracked classic trails, as well. The outer loop includes more hills than then inner loop, which is perfect for families and beginners. You can even snowshoe here on Superior Hiking Trail.


A 13-kilometer trail with a classic track and a skating lane, this track is perfect for all types of skiers. It winds through Snively Park to Magney Park with many beautiful views. There is even a snowmobile trail, which cuts through the Ely's Peak Loop.

Chester Park

A challenging three kilometer trail, this one provides both classic and skate lanes. It's found near the College of St. Scholastica and has been a very popular spot for winter sports in Duluth for quite some time. The Bowl even has a lift-served downhill ski hill and a wooden ski jump.


The Piedmont area trials are about 5.5 kilometers in length and provide double-tracked trails. There is a one kilometer easy look and most of the trials are suited for beginners and intermediates.

Snowflake Nordic Center

This is a privately operated ski center with 15 kilometers of trails. The classic track provides skate lanes and many racers are found here regularly.


Another 15-kilometer trail system, this one includes a Golf Course loop and lanes for classic and skate. It's the most popular trail in the area and four kilometers are even lighted.
