Duluth, MN Historic Houses For SaleFind the Duluth historic homes for sale & real estate listings in Duluth, MN below! Three things brought about the birth of the City of Duluth: the area’s rich natural resources, the fact that it was the only U.S. port accessing both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the arrival of the railroad. Duluth Real Estate Market

Today, Duluth is a bustling port city that has still managed to retain its history in the surviving architecture. Many of downtown Duluth’s businesses are listed on the National Historic Register. Our history is also reflected in our historic homes, especially in the Morgan Park neighborhood, chosen by This Old House as one of a dozen of the “Best Old House Neighborhoods in the Midwest” in 2009. You can shop for early 1900s Prairie style homes in Morgan Park.

If luxury and history are combined in your dreams, a good place to begin you house-hunt is in Duluth's Congdon Park neighborhood, where you’ll find upscale properties rich in history. But for more information about historic homes for sale in Duluth or other Duluth single-family homes for sale, contact one of our local and professional Duluth real estate agents today!

Buying a Historic Home in Duluth, MN

There is one rule to keep in mind if this is your first foray into the historic or vintage home market: Purchasing one of these homes is not the same as purchasing a newer home.

The terms “historic” and “vintage” at the very least mean “old.” Depending on how much rehab the house has undergone, the components may be outdated, at the end of their lives or even dangerous.

This is why a professional home inspection is an absolute must when considering signing a contract to purchase an older home. You may need additional inspections as well, depending on what the original turns up. Structural engineers, electricians, plumbers and other specialists may need to be called in.

Then there are local ordinances regarding historic homes. There may be strict guidelines that you’ll need to follow which may make rehabbing the home quite expensive.

On the flip side, Minnesota’s State Historic Preservation Office offers grants for financial assistance in historic preservation, as well as tax incentives for the rehabilitation of historic properties.

Whether you long for a traditional circa 1903 starter home or a brick bungalow in the Skyline neighborhood, a 1910 charmer in Park Point or a classic 1925 English Tudor Revival luxury property in Congdon, if it’s listed for sale, you’ll find it here on DuluthRealEstate.com.
