Christine Lake is hidden away in the Superior National Forest. Surrounded by miles of public land. Not many humans know about it, but a lot of furry folks do. Meander off the Clara Lk Rd outside of Lutsen on a sweet narrow track through the woods. Keep an eye out for the stands of Norway Pines, keep going, notice the tension in your shoulders release, the pine scent invigorates. Follow along to 48 Christine Pt Rd. Engine off, total silence! Stars! Cool air! Then, you can hardly believe it, a Thoreauvian dream! The perfect little log cabin. Inside is well laid out, tidy like a ship: kitchen for frying up Christine’s walleyes, cozy living room, loft for dreaming, snoozing, etc, tidy little head. Large screen porch: listen to spring peepers, study the warbler migration, heck sleep out here all summer! Too, there is a quaint, solid, log shed for extra storage. Woodshed can be stuffed to keep the steady ol’ pal of a woodstove sailing along. Firepit for contemplation, ghost stories, smores, or just a bit of cowboy TV. A few modern conveniences Henry David would likely enjoy in the cabin: composting toilet, electric and baseboard heat, fiber optic. Ok, maybe he’d balk at the fiber optic. You can, too. Go dark when you go to the cabin! We won’t tell anyone where you are. Time to saunter. Hands in pocket, head down to the lake on a winding boreal forest path. Old cedars curve and dance to a way slow rhythm, can you feel it? Enough time at Christine and you will… Floating dock is convenient. Hand hewn bench down by the shore for personal meditation, a conversation with loved ones, or like John Denver, “talk to God and listen to the casual reply.” Current owner recently restained the logs. There’s a steel roof. This place is ready to go, do as little or as much as you like. Want to split wood, ok there’s a lifetime’s supply. Just want to sit, good on ya. If all the fun of Lutsen calls, it’s about 15-20 minutes away. This is a wilderness retreat in the vast Northwoods. Come find your way, get back to basics: family getaways, nature, time to breathe and think.
